Time I Went Away

Words and Music By Scott Zanni

You don’t believe in me

What can I say to you

We’ve been through all of this before

I just can’t stay here anymore

Time I went away

Feel I don’t belong here

Nothing left to say

It’s been such a long year

Feel I don’t belong here

It’s been such a long year

Feel I don’t belong here…anymore,…anymore

I’ve given all of me,

There’s nothing left to share

I’ve shown you all there is to see,

There’s no emotion left to spare,

Time I went away

Feel I don’t belong here

Nothing left to say

It’s been such a long year

Feel I don’t belong here

It’s been such a long year

Feel I don’t belong here…anymore,…anymore

I don’t remember why I came,

I can’t remember why I stay,

You always try to lay the blame,

That’s why I have to leave today,

Screaming on the inside, Nothing on the outside

Gotta get you outta my mind, Gotta leave you behind

Time I went away

Feel I don’t belong here

Nothing left to say

It’s been such a long year

Feel I don’t belong here

It’s been such a long year

Feel I don’t belong here…anymore,…anymore

Set You Free

Words and Music By Scott Zanni

Close your eyes, Hear my voice,

Look inside, See the choice,

What I see and what I hear is, More than I can bear,

How I think and how I feel is, More than I can share,

I tell you this much, my dear, I’ve set you free,

Don’t cry at all, my dear, Let it be,

(What’s my name) Who else could you blame now, baby,

(You’re insane) Can’t stop those voices in your head,

(No more pain) No one wants to play now, baby,

(Stop the pain) It’s time to lie in your bed,… in your bed,

Bleed your heart, Cry your eyes,

The love you start, Always dies,

What I see and what I hear is, More than I can bear,

How I think and how I feel is, More than I can share,

I tell you this much, my dear, I’ve set you free,

Don’t cry at all, my dear, Let it be,

(What’s my name) Who else could you blame now, baby,

(You’re insane) Can’t stop those voices in your head,

(No more pain) No one wants to play now, baby,

(Stop the pain) It’s time to lie in your bed,… in your bed.

Without A Sound

Words and Music By Scott Zanni

This skin don’t fit at all, No, it don’t fit at all,

And I can’t seem to find the reason why I’m hearing voices in my head,

I just can’t see at all, No, I can’t see at all,

Just why we try to justify and find a reason for those things we said,

Don’t you know me, Won’t you show me,

Who’s Controlling, The things that make the world go ‘round,

Reach to touch me, Seek to teach me,

Please release me, and blow my mind without a sound, without a sound,

I don’t fit in at all, No, I don’t fit in at all,

I failed the schools that teach the rules to all the fools who claim to play the game,

I can’t give in at all, I can’t give in at all,

To something I, just can’t deny, inside I feel that I am not the same,

Don’t you know me, Won’t you show me,

Who’s Controlling, The things that make the world go ‘round,

Reach to touch me, Seek to teach me,

Please release me, and blow my mind without a sound, without a sound,

Don’t you know me, Won’t you show me,

Who’s Controlling, The things that make the world go ‘round,

Reach to touch me, Seek to teach me,

Please release me, and blow my mind without a sound, without a sound,

Down To Size

Words and Music by Scott Zanni

You knock me right back down to size,

You make me wish that I had died.

Concealed within your mind are lies.

Caught in its’ cage compassion dies.

Like nothin’ at all you started breakin’ me down.

You used to call me always bringin’ me down.

I can’t recall you ever stickin’ around.

You talk to everybody putting’ me down.

No more twistin’ in the wind,  (…Close your eyes…)

That’s not how the story ends,  (…Realize…)

Got my back turned toward the sun,   (…Hear my voice…)

My time has just begun.  (…See the choice…)

You came and went without a trace.

I’m left alone in inner space.

I need some time to heal my mind.

I never hope to be so blind.

Like nothin’ at all you started breakin’ me down.

You used to call me always bringin’ me down.

I can’t recall you ever stickin’ around.

You talk to to everybody putting’ me down.

No more twistin’ in the wind,  (…Close your eyes…)

That’s not how the story ends,  (…Realize…)

Got my back turned toward the sun,   (…Hear my voice…)

My time has just begun.  (…See the choice…)

Singer/Songwriter

Guitarist/Bassist/Keyboardist

Video/Audio Engineer

I have performed professionally since 1990. I have graced many stages for many reasons, performing Opera/Classical, Vocal Jazz, Horn Funk/Pop, Rock, Heavy Metal and Acoustic Solo and Duo. I was a paid soloist for 5 years at Kirk In The Hills Church in Bloomfield Hills. I also studied Music at Western and Michigan State University. I perform, write and produce my own music.

I have enjoyed performing at such venues as The Hamlin Pub, Mug Shots Bar  (Uncle Cracker’s Bar), Wharton Center for Performing Arts, DeVoss Hall and The Intersection, The Pound Bar,  Bo’s Brewery and Clutch Cargo’s, The Hayloft, The New Way Bar, The Old Woodbridge Tavern, Rick’s American Café in East Lansing, Kalamazoo and Ann Arbor. Various coffee houses, open jams, local festivals and private parties.

My styles and influences range from the less accessible art music to the more popular modern rock and pop. I currently perform as a solo acoustic cover act. Songs in my current repertoire range from 1950’s (Elvis, Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson), to the British Invasion/ Classic Rock from the 60’s and 70’s (Beatles, Stones, Cream, Zeppelin), to the New Wave Pop and Big Hair Rock styling of the 80’s  ( John Cougar, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, The Cure and The Church) and finally the Grunge of the 90’s (STP,  Pearl Jam, Radiohead and Black Crowes) and the Modern Pop and Rock of the 2000’s to present (Jason Mraz, John Mayer, Seether,  Stone Sour and The Black Keys)

My own music is definitely an amalgam of rock, soul and alternative sensibilities. I am a huge proponent of strong vocals, harmonies and lyrics range from grunge apathy, to songs of sorrow, hope and joy. I love music and hope that I have a chance to get my music out there! If I can connect with anyone through my music, and let them know that they are not alone in their feelings about life and this crazy-beautiful world we live in, then I will have accomplished my goal!

Thanks for listening!

My Bleeding Heart

Words and Music By Scott Zanni

I left my home, in Detroit city,

Left on my own, so I could see,

Only the unknown, is out there waiting,

Sad eyes at home, still crying for me,

My bleeding, heart,

My bleeding, heart,…heart,…heart

I wear my heart, upon my sleeve,

So everybody, can see,

I sit in this room, staring at nothing,

‘Cause there is one place, I’d rather be,

My bleeding, heart,

My bleeding, heart,…heart,…heart

It feels like forever now,

Since I’ve been away,

All those memories are faded and jaded and drifting away,

The winters so cold, I miss you near me,

Longing for home, I break down and cry,

I call out your name, and you can’t hear me,

I know you’re always, here by my side,

 My bleeding, heart,

My bleeding, heart,…heart,…heart

Better Off Dead

Words and Music by Scott Zanni

All Hope has died, My lover lied, I Should have Tried, To talk it over.

She read her lines, She made her mind, I’m left behind, That life is over.

Yesterday was so much better than today.

I can’t explain that feelin’ any other way

It was the worst day ever.

I should’ve never woke up, never gotten out of bed.

It was the worst day ever.

The ones your mother told you ‘bout when you’d feel better…

Better of dead, better off dead…

I’ve wasted time, I’ve blown my mind, I couldn’t find, My motivation.

I had it all, Was born to fall, I hit the wall, My revelation.

Yesterday was so much better than today.

I can’t explain that feelin’ any other way

It was the worst day ever.

I should’ve never woke up, never gotten out of bed.

It was the worst day ever.

The ones your mother told you ‘bout when you’d feel better…

Better off dead, better off dead…

We walked for miles, Shared tears and smiles, I thought our time, Would last forever.

She hid her pain, Her fear and shame, It’s not the same, She’s gone forever.

Thank You

Words and Music By Scott Zanni

If you would’ve asked me when I was a boy, Where do you think your life will lead you to?

With the sun on my face, I’d smile and wonder why,

Where will the wind go, and where will I fly? And how will I know when I have arrived?

When I would dream of becoming a man, I would have told you of amazing tales of distant lands,

I was blind to all that lie in store,

I never realized there’d be so much more, I never understood what life was for,

Then I found you, and I saw your face, and all the random pieces fell into place,

Then I found you, and it finally sunk in, this is the moment when my life begins,

And I’m so glad, that you’re in my life, and I’m so glad you became my wife,

You give me love and you soothe my soul, you touch my heart, like no one knows,

And I thank you, and I love you, and I want you, and I need you

In my life, you are my light, In my life, you are my light

So many years later, that little boy, Has come so far now, he smiles and knows exactly why,

So many moments that fill his head

Where did the time go, just where and when? Watched all these years go by with my best friend,

Then I see you and I kiss your face, and all those memories fall into place,

Then I see you , and it comes to me, this is exactly where I’m meant to be,

And I’m so glad, that you’re in my life, and I’m so glad you became my wife,

You give me love and you soothe my soul, you touch my heart, like no one knows,

And I thank you, and I love you, and I want you, and I need you

In my life, you are my light, In my life, you are my light

And I’m so glad, that you’re in my life, and I’m so glad you became my wife,

You give me love and you soothe my soul, you touch my heart, like no one knows,

And I thank you, and I love you, and I want you, and I need you

In my life, you are my light, In my life, you are my light
